Microblading

Everything You Need to Know About Microblading in Brighton & Hove

If you asked me to choose one treatment that consistently creates some of the most noticeable facial transformations, my answer would be microblading.

As an aesthetic practitioner offering a wide range of treatments—from anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers to advanced skin rejuvenation procedures—I have always believed that beautifully designed eyebrows can have one of the biggest impacts on the overall face.

Your eyebrows frame your eyes, balance your facial features and influence your expression. Whether your brows have become sparse through over-plucking, ageing or naturally light hair growth, microblading can restore shape, definition and confidence with beautifully natural-looking results.

At Brighton Beauty Bar, every treatment is individually tailored because no two faces—and no two skin types—are the same.

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent eyebrow treatment that uses a handheld precision tool to create ultra-fine hair-like strokes within the skin. These strokes are carefully placed to mimic natural eyebrow hairs, creating fuller, beautifully shaped brows without looking heavy or artificial.

The treatment is ideal for clients who want to:

  • Fuller eyebrows
  • Better symmetry
  • More definition
  • Natural-looking results
  • Less time spent applying makeup every morning

Our goal is never to create identical brows on every client. Instead, we design eyebrows that complement your unique facial features and enhance your natural beauty.

Who is Microblading Suitable For?

Microblading can be an excellent option if you:

  • Have naturally sparse eyebrows
  • Have over-plucked your brows in the past
  • Have uneven eyebrow shapes
  • Have gaps in your eyebrows
  • Want a soft, natural enhancement
  • Want to reduce the time spent filling in your brows each day

Every client receives a thorough consultation before treatment to ensure microblading is suitable for their skin and desired outcome.

Who May Not Be Suitable?

Microblading may not be recommended if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have an active skin infection around the eyebrow area
  • Have uncontrolled diabetes
  • Are undergoing certain medical treatments
  • Have certain skin conditions affecting the eyebrow area
  • Have recently used strong resurfacing treatments around the brows

During your consultation, we will discuss your medical history to determine whether the treatment is appropriate for you.

Does Microblading Hurt?

This is one of the questions we hear most often.

Most clients are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the procedure is. A topical numbing cream is applied to help minimise discomfort, and many people describe the sensation as light scratching rather than pain.

Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but the majority of clients find the treatment very manageable.

The Healing Process

Healing is completely normal and happens in several stages.

During the first few days, your brows will appear darker than expected. This is temporary and part of the natural healing process.

Over the following weeks you may notice:

  • Slight flaking
  • Dryness
  • Itching
  • Temporary lightening of the pigment

Once the skin has fully healed, the colour gradually returns to reveal a much softer and more natural result.

Final healed results are normally assessed at around 6–8 weeks, when your perfecting touch-up is carried out if required.

Why Does Everyone Heal Differently?

One of the biggest misconceptions is that every client heals exactly the same.

The reality is that pigment retention varies from person to person.

Several factors influence the final healed result, including:

Skin Type

Dry skin often retains crisp hair strokes for longer.

Oily skin can cause strokes to soften more quickly, meaning clients may require additional colour reinforcement over time.

Combination skin usually heals somewhere in between.

Skin Texture

Smooth, healthy skin generally provides the most defined healed strokes.

Enlarged pores, thicker skin or uneven skin texture may slightly soften the final appearance.

Mature Skin

Mature skin often requires a more customised approach.

As collagen naturally decreases with age, the skin becomes thinner and more delicate. Stroke placement, pressure and pigment choice are carefully adapted to achieve the most flattering and natural result while respecting the skin’s integrity.

Lifestyle

Your lifestyle also plays an important role.

Frequent sun exposure, swimming, saunas, intensive exercise, skincare products containing retinol or exfoliating acids, and certain hormonal changes can all affect how long your pigment lasts.

This is why two clients receiving exactly the same treatment may heal differently.

How Long Does Microblading Last?

Most clients enjoy their results for approximately 12–24 months.

Longevity depends on many individual factors, including:

  • Skin type
  • Age
  • Lifestyle
  • Sun exposure
  • Skincare routine
  • Immune response
  • Pigment retention

Regular colour refresh appointments help maintain beautifully defined eyebrows over time.

Why Are Touch-Up Appointments Important?

Microblading is completed over two stages.

The initial appointment creates the foundation of your new brows.

Once healing has finished, a touch-up appointment allows us to assess how your skin has retained the pigment and make any necessary refinements.

This second appointment helps perfect the final result and is an important part of the treatment process.

Microblading Aftercare

Following the correct aftercare instructions is essential for achieving the best healed results.

For the first few weeks, we advise avoiding:

  • Swimming
  • Saunas
  • Excessive sweating
  • Sunbeds
  • Picking any flaking skin
  • Applying makeup directly over the eyebrows
  • Strong active skincare ingredients around the treated area

Proper aftercare allows the skin to heal evenly and helps maximise pigment retention.

Microblading vs Powder Brows

Both treatments create beautiful eyebrows, but they achieve different looks.

Microblading creates delicate hair-like strokes and is ideal for clients wanting the most natural appearance.

Powder brows create a soft shaded makeup effect with more density.

During your consultation, we will recommend the treatment that best suits your skin type, lifestyle and aesthetic goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my eyebrows look natural?

Yes. Our aim is to create brows that complement your facial features while remaining soft, balanced and natural-looking.

Will all clients achieve the same result?

No. Every person’s skin heals differently, and pigment retention varies depending on factors such as skin type, age, lifestyle and healing response.

Will I still need to tweeze my eyebrows?

You may still need occasional maintenance of natural hairs growing outside your new brow shape.

Can I wear makeup afterwards?

Once your brows have fully healed, you can wear makeup as normal.

Why Choose Brighton Beauty Bar for Microblading?

Beautiful eyebrows are about much more than simply adding pigment.

They require an understanding of facial balance, symmetry, proportion and the way eyebrows influence the entire face.

At Brighton Beauty Bar, every brow is individually mapped and designed to complement your unique facial structure. We believe that no two clients should leave with identical eyebrows—your treatment should be as individual as you are.

Our focus is always on creating elegant, natural-looking results that enhance your features rather than overpower them.
